形態特徵

Culms 4-20 m tall, 5-18 cm in diam., light green and silvery pubescent when young, then becoming glabrous, yellowish green to pale green, upper culm flattened or grooved on one side on alternate internodes, internodes 5-40 cm long; nodes prominent with a glaucous ring below nodes; walls 0.5-1.5 cm thick.
Sheath of culm subcoriaceous, purplish brown, densely covered with dark brown hairs and dark brown spots outside, margins fimbriate; auricles of sheath small, with tufts of brown bristles; ligule of sheath narrowed, aristate; blade of sheath subulate or narrowly triangular, yellow green when young, entire. Leaves 2-4, linear-lanceolate, 4-12 cm long, 0.5-1.5 cm broad, acute, base cuneate, pubescent on midrib toward base beneath, densely spinulose-scabrous along one margin, very sparsely so along other, veins 3-6, veinlets 9, tessellate; petioles 1-2 mm long; auricles of leaf inconspicuous; ligule of leaf convex; sheath of leaf 2.5-4 cm long, glabrous outside, ciliate on one side.
Spikelets usually solitary in a terminal leaf branchlet, 5-7 cm long, 5-6 mm in diam.; outer bract mostly persistent at base, coriaceous, 20-30 cm long, glabrous, with a blade at apex; glumes ovate-lanceolate; lemmas broad-lanceolate, acute, 26 mm long, 5 mm wide, veins 11; paleas 2-keeled, bilobed at apex, veins 2-3 between keels and 2-4 between each keel and edge; ovary lagena shaped, slender; style glabrous, ending in 3 feathery stigmas; stamens 3, filaments 40 mm long, anthers 12 mm long, with a finely awned tip; lodicules 3, 6 mm long, 1 mm wide, glabrous, entire.
Fruit linear-lanceolate, 11 mm long, 1.2 mm in diam., grooved abaxially, style very long, persistent at apex.
